The Lumenus Youth Gallery originated 22 years ago, when a group of therapists who worked with youth noticed that creating art really helped the clients. It gave them a positive coping mechanism and creative outlet. They felt that the young artists’ creativity and artwork deserved to be shared and recognized, but there weren’t any places to display the art.
The therapists decided to create such a space, and thus the youth gallery was born. It began as one plain office wall, but today it has grown to become so much more. The art gallery is run by youth volunteers to help other youth display their art. This program also helps support youth financially if they choose to sell their art, with all proceeds of sales going directly to youth artists.
